That Could Have Been Me

Ron Cothran has been a respiratory therapist for 25 years. He has seen patients that could not breathe because of they have so much fat in and around their chests. Because of the fat, they can't breathe right when they are lying down. Ron quotes about a man that is in the hospital because his breathing, "They say he smokes constantly, eats whatever he wants in whatever quantities he wants, and drinks alcohol in excess, despite the pleadings of those who can see what is happening to him." Ron tells about how he was always big. Because of how his health issues growing up, he lost a lot. His wife, his confidence, and his strength.

This story is really inspiring. Ron lost so much weight and got his life back on track. Now he can tell his patients, that are going threw the same thing, to not give up. That life always gets better. He talks about how he was 365 pounds with type two diabetes. Now he married his second wife, two adult children, two stepdaughters, and he works out six days a week. "There is no going back," Ron joyfully says.

This article is really great. I know a lot of people like this. Everyone has their ups and downs. Some people can not lose weight because medical conditions. My father is trying to lose weight as I am writing this. He has a lot of medical problems, but I know that he can do it. Weight can hold you back in life. If you are trying to lose weight because of medical conditions, if it gets that bad, then look at what Ron did. You can inspire people.

Figure Skating

(Guilherme de Carvalho Barbosa)

Rhea Schwartz fell in love with skating when someone wanted her to ice skate for the first time when she was 30. She wanted to take more and more lessons to get better. She realized that not that much adults was around her skating. She started the U.S Adult Figure Skating Championships. She is now 63 and still skating.

This made me think how brave Schwartz must have been. She saw that the hobby she loved did not have that much women her age. She started the U.S Adult Figure Skating Championships 20 years ago and has grown to 600 skaters! That is incredible that she did that with one little idea. This is a great example to not give up on just a little idea. Ideas can become reality. They will work. We have read a lot of books about people not given up.

Everyone should become something. Everyone has a purpose. So many people have a feeling that they are missing something in their life. If you are, go find it.

Caretaker arraigned in connection with brutal death of 4-year-old New York boy

New York woman indicted in connection with the beating death of 4-year-old Myls Dobson was arraigned in state court on Wednesday.

4-year-old Myls Dobson died Janurary 8, 2014. His father, Okee Wade, died when he went to jail a few years earlier. Wade left Myls in 27-year-old Kryzie King's care. King starved, beat, and burned Myls. She has been to court and charges have been made against her. During the medical exam of the body, they found marks and prints that matched belts with a metal end, wires, a George Foreman grill, and an oven rack.

I have not saw something this cruel in a long time. I have had family members with a problem like this. So many kids are getting abused these days. It is sad to see little kids getting killed by their parents or guardian. Parents take the phrase, "I brought you into theses world and I can take you out of it." Kids need time to develop and learn what they are doing wrong.

I have studied and researched cases similar to this in my topic for assisted suicide. This world is, honestly, falling apart. This is not the world that I grew up in thinking that everything is safe. People get stressed, or anything else, and freak out. I have saw babysitters in videos that would slap babies for crying too much. This is a problem that people do not realize. People in this world need to stop this nonsense. Make the world a better place.

Lawyers Killing Themselves.

(Delhilawyer.)

Lawyers have a higher risk for committing suicide than anyone else. Lawyers have stress over many things. Some lawyers have too much stress from work, but do not show it at home. They have great families at home that do not notice how bad their stress is.

This article surprised me. I never thought a lawyer would commit suicide. They have a great family, great house, and make a good amount of money. Why would anyone kill themselves when they have everything that a lot of people dream of having.

I have been studying how doctors help their patients commit suicide. I think that people should not end their lives no matter what. You came in this world for a reason and you do not need to be taken out of it just because life gets tough.

Literacy Blog #10

In the article is tells us “approximately 3˚C from pre-industrial levels, since about 0.8˚C of warming has happened in the last 150 years. The latest estimates of climate sensitivity suggest that such temperatures may not be reached till the end of the century — if at all.” The author is saying that global warming is helping us in a way. It says that cold weather has caused more death than hot weather has. Maybe global warming i better for humans, but not for the environment. Animals and plants live in different kind of temperatures. If the energy efficiency of our homes improves, then at some point the cost of cooling probably will exceed the cost of heating. Another good benefit is that carbon dioxide is increasing. Plants need a lot of carbon dioxide to make oxygen. Carbon Dioxide will help our plants grow more and produce oxygen more. We should care about our world. We live here and we need to take care of it. The economy is not going very well right now. Most families are struggling to keep a house and food. It is possible to compare the cost and benefits of climate change. but it is hard to think how the future is going to be. Climate Change has changed a lot. Everyone thinks it is all bad. There is some good. Right now, we need to make sure our planet is getting took care of. We should make policies about money first before we do anything else. We should stop wasting so much stuff that we could easily reuse. Some people keep saying that they want a better world or environment. They also don’t do nothing about it.

Literacy Blog #7

I never thought of the SAT being graded just in two minutes. It is crazy how much you have to impress them in just little time. Maybe it is a good thing so not that much time is wasted and some creative writers can get in college. The judges for the SAT writing has to be impressed with the writing. The writing should be simple and precise. People would usually think that the most vocabulary would be the best essay and they would pick that person for that school. I personally think that they should pay more attention on creative writers than the smartest writers. If you was a judge wouldn’t you pick creativity over smartness? I am a creative writer and if I got a good topic to talk about than I can put a creative essay together. I know that you would have to work fast because the SAT is a timed test. I feel like I would be able to do it well. I normally get nervous on big tests like that and I feel that this article has helped me a lot. I disagree on some of judgements on grading the SATs. I would take some time to stay after school and practice writing to get me ready for the SAT. In the article it tells us “In our placement tests, you see this all the time, where people continue the B.S., because they just assume that’s what works,” says Perelman. “I think [the SAT essay] creates damage, that it’s harmful.” I think this scares me a little bit because teachers are suppose to expand our vocabulary and teach us how to write better. I hope that the SAT essay will get better before I take it. Not harder just better.
