Literacy Blog #7
I never thought of the SAT being graded just in two minutes. It is crazy how much you have to impress them in just little time. Maybe it is a good thing so not that much time is wasted and some creative writers can get in college. The judges for the SAT writing has to be impressed with the writing. The writing should be simple and precise. People would usually think that the most vocabulary would be the best essay and they would pick that person for that school. I personally think that they should pay more attention on creative writers than the smartest writers. If you was a judge wouldn’t you pick creativity over smartness? I am a creative writer and if I got a good topic to talk about than I can put a creative essay together. I know that you would have to work fast because the SAT is a timed test. I feel like I would be able to do it well. I normally get nervous on big tests like that and I feel that this article has helped me a lot. I disagree on some of judgements on grading the SATs. I would take some time to stay after school and practice writing to get me ready for the SAT. In the article it tells us “In our placement tests, you see this all the time, where people continue the B.S., because they just assume that’s what works,” says Perelman. “I think [the SAT essay] creates damage, that it’s harmful.” I think this scares me a little bit because teachers are suppose to expand our vocabulary and teach us how to write better. I hope that the SAT essay will get better before I take it. Not harder just better.
